“I think Covid has really shown people that they can work from anywhere and do anything. For example, I had a couple move here where he works in Sydney, but he worked out that he could just fly up once a fortnight for two nights.”
Samantha’s journey began when she was approached by someone looking to sell their buyers agency business. Initially purchasing it with a partner as a side hustle while maintaining her property management role, she quickly recognised the potential and bought out her partner to focus on it full-time.
The timing proved perfect as Tasmania’s property market surged with interstate interest. Samantha’s business shifted from 90% investor clients to now 80% owner-occupiers – primarily retirees from Sydney and Melbourne seeking coastal properties on 1-2 acre blocks.
“I think people don’t realise the pricing is pretty good. You could get a house on a 700 square metre block for $700,000.”
Her property management background gives her a unique advantage in understanding Tasmania’s challenging property legislation. In a state where vendors aren’t required to provide council documents, her expertise is invaluable.
“BAI gave me the framework to hit the ground running. Without it, I wouldn’t have had the clarity to grow this fast.”
Samantha has built strong relationships with local agents who now regularly refer clients to her. She’s positioned herself as not just a buyers agent but as an ambassador for Tasmania, using her social media to showcase the lifestyle opportunities the island offers.
“I try to sell Tasmania as a place. That’s what I do on my social media – different places you can go and things you can do.”
