“It doesn’t even feel like work, mate. You wake up with a smile on your face. You work through the challenges that your client briefs give you, but it does not feel like a job.”
After 20 years unloading shipping containers, Michael sought something that would “fill his bucket.” His passion for property led him to briefly try real estate sales, giving him valuable insight into agent challenges before realising his calling was on the buyer’s side.
Michael’s business is built on relationship development with agents and a trusted network of professionals. His clients are evenly split between owner-occupiers and investors, with his minimum purchase price around $850,000.
“I’m big on building relationships. I now coach one of my clients’ basketball teams. Our families catch up every fortnight for a barbecue. That part of it, I’m really enjoying.”
One rewarding moment came when a Sydney client cried with happiness upon seeing her new home. This emotional connection has become a hallmark of his service, with many clients becoming friends afterward.
Despite competing in the same market as other buyer’s agents, Michael embraces collaboration over competition. He regularly shares off-market opportunities with colleagues when they don’t suit his clients.
“BAI gave me the framework and I’ve been able to hit the ground running. It’s been an incredible journey for me personally and life-changing if I’m being honest.”
With Geelong’s market growing as interest rates pause, Michael focuses on educating locals about buyer’s agent services while helping out-of-area clients relocate to the region.
“If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room. I am a huge advocate of having a business coach or anyone who can help you build and grow your knowledge.”
