“I genuinely think that what we do is a consultancy business, not a sales business. People either want our help or they don’t. I never feel like I’m pushing myself onto people or trying to close a deal.”
After working as a “floating associate” in real estate sales, Jacob gained experience with different agents and business approaches. Within 12 months, he realised buyer’s agency aligned better with his nature and saw potential growth in the industry.
Jacob launched Hunter Gather in July 2020, despite COVID challenges. He focused on building a distinctive brand and high service standards rather than competing on price.
“Where people can’t compete on service, they tend to compete on price. We provide high-level service, and our clients are happy to pay what we’re charging because we’re providing value.”
Jacob’s approach removes time and stress from the buying process. While clients initially think the main benefit is saving money, they ultimately value peace of mind most. His expertise in market cycles allows him to identify optimal purchase timing, whether on or off-market.
“BAI gave me the framework and confidence to build this business.”
Looking ahead, Jacob plans to grow Hunter Gather strategically with potentially 2-4 more team members, focusing on cultural fit rather than rapid expansion.
“The thing that’s invaluable is the time and stress removed from the equation, and essentially just getting peace of mind that they bought the right property.”
