“We saw a huge opportunity in an emerging market where we felt we could really add value to buyers with our experience. Experience only comes with time.”
The Goldman brothers began their Australian journey in the clothing industry after emigrating from South Africa. Barry entered real estate in 1997, starting at McGrath before moving to Lang + Simmons in Double Bay. Mark joined him in 2008 when they purchased the Rain & Horn Double Bay office.
Their transition to buyer’s advocacy came after observing 75% of deals in Sydney’s prestigious Eastern Suburbs involved buyer’s agents. Despite running a successful sales business, they recognised an opportunity to leverage their extensive experience in a less competitive space.
“We always say to our buyers that we have to be able to add value. If at the end when they buy and look back and say these guys didn’t add value, then there was no point in appointing us.”
Their approach combines deep market knowledge with an ability to read clients’ needs. In one instance, they helped clients with an $11 million budget secure their ideal property for just over $6 million by identifying a perfect match in an unexpected area.
“BAI gave us the framework and confidence to build this business.”
The Goldman Brothers team now includes five experienced former sales agents. Their goal remains adding genuine value through extensive experience.
“It’s not only about the dollar or the exact brief, you’ve got to really understand your clients. We’re very much problem solvers, able to handle tricky deals that might otherwise fall through.”
