“Being a buyer’s agent resonated with me because there’s pain everywhere – pain of missing out, pain of not being in their forever home. I have clients who’ve been looking for six months.”
After building a successful practice with multiple staff, Dean found himself working harder just to maintain the business rather than enjoying his work. The hourly-based income model meant he couldn’t take time off when needed, even when his first child was born.
“The income you derive as a therapist is on the hour. I couldn’t just pick up the girls from school or see their dance classes, whereas now I can. Normally I pick them up three days a week and take them to school two days. I could never have done that before.”
Dean’s approach has been methodical, focusing on his “big rock theory” – identifying what’s truly important and working towards it consistently. He’s leveraged his experience running his healthcare business to build client relationships and deliver results-based outcomes.
“BAI really helped by allowing me to have my own platform. Having that community of people as backup was crucial.”
Dean is now finalising his transition into full-time work as a buyer’s agent while maintaining the work-life balance that prioritises family time.
“Where you are now is going to remain the same. You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain. If I didn’t make this change, I’d still be doing something I liked a lot, but not something that I love a lot.”
