“I firmly believe that the buyer’s agent role is where I belong for this latter part of my career. My father was always in property, so maybe I’ve taken a bit out of his book.”
Nigel spent 20 years helping build a software company, developing expertise in marketing and sales. Despite having a secure executive position, he felt unstimulated. Property had always been a passion for both him and his wife Vanessa, whose initial is incorporated into his company name, Niva.
Initially focusing exclusively on investors and small-scale developers, Nigel has recently expanded to include owner-occupiers and first-home buyers. His approach is focused on thorough personal inspections of every property he recommends.
“As a buyer’s agent, you’re helping people directly. That’s hugely valuable, especially for first home buyers where it’s such a massive step in their life.”
Nigel’s strategy has evolved over his first two years, narrowing his geographic focus to Newcastle and Lake Macquarie where he can provide the highest level of service.
“The BAI course was great. It set me up well and gave me confidence. The BAI group has been great support – it’s good to have a network because everyone will have tough times.”
Looking ahead to 2024, Nigel is excited about growing his business further, with inquiries increasing as market confidence returns.
“I think change is a really good thing. If you can embrace change and roll with it and learn along the way, I think that’s an amazing thing.”
